Our Story
Covid-19 has reminded us that Medics and Paramedics do some of the most challenging and precise work under some of the most stressful conditions. While scrubs were initially introduced to provide medics with a way to wear comfortable, sanitized apparel unfortunately, they became a bane rather than a boon and a necessary evil somewhere along the way. As such, medical apparel has been a manufacturer-to-retailer supply chain, with the end user left with no choice but to go along with what their institutions hand down. OnCall is here with a fresh new perspective on an age old industry ! With social media fueling discernible fashion requirements, medics do not wish to be left behind. Workwear that instills a sense of confidence while at the same time caters to those very specific functional needs, we make high-quality scrubs that feel light on the skin with fabrics traditionally used for athletic wear, while also having dry fast, anti-wrinkle and anti-bacterial properties. So, medics look, feel and perform their best! We’re taking care of those working in the vast and exceptionally critical healthcare ecosystem across all disciplines and levels of expertise, with the firm belief that our bit will trickle down and manifest as a more satisfied workforce. With this intent in our hearts, we hope to build this brand into one that identifies with the inner struggle and hard work of medics. A brand that focuses on the silent but powerful role that these heroes play in running the world.
Founder
Dr. Richa Rai, Founder of OnCall, has been around the medical fraternity for a very long time; before studying to become a doctor herself, her childhood was spent observing nurses and doctors at family run hospitals. Post her MBBS; she moved to the US to pursue a 2-year Health Administration and Policy program at Columbia University, New York. During her stint in New York, she saw her friends in medical schools and residencies wear functional, fashionable, and fun scrubs. It was almost as if they looked forward to donning their attire- which is something that she certainly never experienced herself through med school in India. On further inspection, she realized that the factors behind low adoption rates weren't low demand or price but inadequate quality and less functionality.
There are nearly 1.3 million healthcare professionals in the country, with most having 12-hour shifts on average. Approximately 5 million more healthcare professionals are expected to be added by the end of this decade. Unlike most other categories in the D2C apparel sector, healthcare apparel is less susceptible to fad risk. Realizing these facts, OnCall scrubs were born to meet this largely unmet need for high-quality medical clothing more suitable for Indian Climate.
Dr Richa, with amalgamation of exposure in medicine and a passion for entrepreneurship is diving deeper with Oncall to build cutting-edge fabric technology coupled with a digitally native approach to become India's most loved scrubs brand.
